Jonathan Doane, a graduate student in electrical and computer engineering and a graduate research associate at the ElectroScience Laboratory, received the second best paper award at the Antenna Applications Symposium held September 18-20 in Illinois. The paper, entitled “A Wideband Scanning Conformal Array with a Compact Compensating Balun,” is co-authored by Jonathan Doane, Kubilay Sertel and John L. Volakis.

Doane earned his BSEE (1999) and MSEE (2001) from Michigan Technological University. He worked as an antenna engineer at Rockwell Collins' Advanced Technology Center in Cedar Rapids, IA before attending Ohio State to pursue his PhD and conduct research at the ElectroScience Laboratory. He is co-advised by John Volakis, Chope Chair professor and director of the ElectroScience Laboratory; and Kubilay Sertel, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering. Doane's research interests are in antenna theory and ultrawideband array design.
