Your smart phone may soon get some boost from a phone case that extends its battery life up-to 30% by harnessing RF energy transmitted by your phone. In essence, the case slows the discharge rate of the cell phone battery by up-to 30%. The two of the co-founders of the company Nikola Labs, which was chosen as the People's Choice Award and offered a spot to pitch their idea in the Start-up Battefield at the Tech Cruch Distrupt Event in New York on May 4, 2015, received an air time on National Public Radio, at the Tech Tuesday All Sides by Ann Fisher program on May 12, 2015. Dr. Chi-Chih Chen and Will Zell explained Ann Fisher the technology behind the innovative idea and talked about how it came to life from initial product idea, which utilized the technology that was developed at ECE and ESL, to the manufacturing stages. Dr. Chen also talked about overcoming the challenges most people face at the "Valley of Death" where most promissing ideas die or can't reach to the commercialization stage due to lack of entrepreneurial and legal support.
