Michael G. Wood, a Ph.D. student at the ESL, is the Integrated Photonics winner of the 2015 Emil Wolf Outstanding Student Paper Competition for his paper titled "Degenerate band edge resonances in periodic silicon ridge waveguides". The OSA Foundation Emil Wolf Outstanding Student Paper Competition recognizes innovation, research excellence and presentation abilities of students presenting their work during the Frontiers in Optics Conference (FiO), the OSA Annual Meeting, and honors Emil Wolf for his many contributions to science and The Optical Society. One winner is selected from each of the seven FiO subcommittees. Michael is the Integrated Photonics winner and receives a complimentary OSA student membership, an award stipend of $300 USD along with an award certificate.

Michael received B.S.degrees in electrical and computer engineering, and mathematics from Oklahoma State University in 2009. His research interests include silicon photonics, electro-optics, and nanofabrication. Michael is advised by Dr. Ron Reano.
