ESL Students Make a Strong Appearance Ahead of IEEE AP-S/URSI Meeting

Every year many ESL students, researchers and faculty engaged in research focusing on antennas, EM and materials, computational techniques, propagation and scattering, antenna applications and emerging technologies such as RFID antennas, UWB systems, wireless energy harvesting and biomedical applications, participate in the annual gathering of IEEE AP-S Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and USNC-URSI Radio Science. This year's meeting will be held in Fajardo, Puerto Rico from June 26 to July 1, 2016. Ahead of this important meeting many ESL students received a spot as a finalist in the top 15 for the student paper competition or selected for Honorable Mentions. We congratulate each of these recipients for their hard work and illustrating excellence in research writing.

Below is a list of ESL graduate students selected for these awards:

Finalists
  1. Cosan Caglayan: Selected as one of the 15 finalists in the 2016 IEEE AP-S Student Paper Competition for his paper, "On-Chip "Baluntennas" for Differential-Mode Non-Contact Characterization of mmW/THz Devices and ICs", co-authored by Prof. Kubilay Sertel
  2. Seckin Sahin: Selected as one of the 15 finalists in the 2016 IEEE AP-S Student Paper Competition for her paper “On-chip UWB Phased Arrays for mmW Connectivity", co-authored by Prof. Niru K. Nahar and Prof. Kubilay Sertel.
  3. Syed An Nazmus Saqueb: Selected as one of the 15 finalists in the 2016 IEEE AP-S Student Paper Competition for his paper "Phase-sensitive THz Imaging using Single-Pixel Intensity-only Measurements", co -authored by Prof. Kubilay Sertel.
Honorable Mentions
  1. Anas J. Abumunshar: Received Honorable Mention for his paper "K-to-Ka Band Low-profile Phased Array with Integrated MEMS Phase Shifters", co-authored by Prof. Niru K. Nahar, Daniel J. Hyman, and Prof. Kubilay Sertel.
  2. Satheesh Bojja Venkatakrishnan: Received Honorable Mention for his paper "Dual-Band Validation of On-Site Coding Receiver using Ultra-Wideband Antenna Array at C,X and Ku bands", co-authored by Abe A. Akhiyat, Dr. Elias A. Alwan and Prof. John L. Volakis.
  3. Cedric Lee: Received Honorable Mention for his paper "Miniature Fully-Passive Brain Implant for Wireless Real-Time Neuropotential Monitoring", co-authored by Dr. Asimina Kiourti and Prof. John L. Volakis.
  4. Shaoxin Peng: Received Honorable Mention for his paper "Direct Evaluation of Hyper-Singularity in Surface Integral Equation Using Quadrature by Expansion", co-authored by Prof. Jin-Fa Lee
