Electrical and Computer Engineering Assistant Professor Asimina Kiourti received one of The Ohio State University’s highest honors.

Kiourti earned the 2022 Early Career Distinguished Scholar Award for her work in wearable and implantable technology (WIT).

Each year, the Early Career Distinguished Scholar Award honors three assistant professors and early associate professors who show promise of making significant contributions to Ohio State and their field for years to come.

Kiourti’s WIT group operates via Ohio State’s ElectroScience Lab on Kinnear Road. The research team is carrying out interdisciplinary studies at the intersection of (bio-) electromagnetics, sensors, materials, and medicine. The group is developing wearables and implants to outperform the state-of-the-art in terms of seamlessness, capabilities, and performance.

Active WIT collaborations are in place with five different colleges university-wide, including College of Engineering, College of Medicine, College of Nursing, College of Arts and Sciences, and College of Veterinary Medicine.

The accolades for Kiourti’s work also earned the 2022 Dean’s Award for Distinguished Outreach Achievements from the College of Engineering. The award is presented each year to an individual faculty member who has demonstrated significant and longstanding achievement of positive community impact through outreach activities or programs within the College of Engineering.

Listen to a more in-depth discussion between College of Engineering Dean Ayanna Howard and Kiourti from a recent Enginuity Podcast Episode Three.
