About


Chi-Chih Chen received his MS and PhD degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 1993 and 1997, respectively. He has been with The Ohio State University ElectroScience Laboratory (ESL) since 1993 as a postdoctoral researcher (1997~1999), senior research associate (1999-2003), and research scientist (2004~2011). Dr. Chen has been an adjunct assistant professor at The Ohio State University Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering since 2004 and was appointed research associate professor in 2011.

Dr. Chen is Fellow of Antenna Measurement Techniques Association (AMTA), Senior Member of IEEE Antenna and Propagation Society, Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society, Member of Exploration Geophysicists Society, Member of Institute of Navigation, and Member of Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society. He also served as Treasurer, Vice Chairman and Chairman of IEEE Joint AP/MTT Chapter Columbus Section, 2001-2003, Technical Chair of the 2006 International Ground Penetrating Radar Conference in Columbus, International Scientific Committee since 2006, and Advisory Committee of International Ground Penetrating Radar Conference since 2006. Dr. Chen was co-editor of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Transaction special issue on Subsurface Sensing Using Ground-Penetrating Radar, 2007. He also served as session chair for various international conferences, and as a reviewer for 14 journals IEEE (AP, APWL, GRS, GRSL, EC, CL, Sensors), JAG, IET, IOP (GE, MST), PIER&JEMWA, JEEG. Dr. Chen has presented several short courses on antenna measurements, antenna miniaturization, UWB antennas, and ground penetrating radars.

Research Interests
Dr. Chen’s research interests include ground penetrating radar technology, novel radar systems (vehicle obstacle detection, insect tracking, RFID, …), buried target detection/classification, UWB antenna designs, UWB dual-polarization feed/probe antenna designs for antenna and RCS ranges, compact/low-profile antenna designs for communication and navigation systems. He has published many journal papers and several book chapters in these areas and gave short courses on miniature antennas and ground penetrating radar antennas.
