MEEP: A flexible, free-software package for electromagnetic simulations by the FDTD method

Ardavan Oskooi, Founder and CEO of Simpetus

Abstract:

This hands-on workshop will introduce participants to setting up and launching finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations using the open-source software package MEEP (ab-initio.mit.edu). Several examples demonstrating some of the core capabilities of the software relevant to current research in nanophotonic and plasmonic devices including thin-film silicon solar cells and organic light-emitting diodes will be presented. The focus will be on providing a broad survey of MEEP's features and functionalities to enable a wide range of electromagnetic design and modeling.

Requirements:

Participants should bring a laptop to the workshop running either GNU/Linux, OSX, or a Linux-like environment (e.g., Cygwin for Windows). Installation instructions and the source code are available on MEEP's homepage: http://ab-initio.mit.edu/wiki/index.php/Meep
